The last few months for the COSMIC team have been active and rewarding. A successful second Open Call has now come to a close as of 20 July. With more than 714 applications started and 403 submitted, innovative ideas are now in flight. Here is some behind the scenes data to get to know the applicants of the second Open Call.

Similar to the first Open Call there was notable diversity in applications with more 37 countries represented in submissions. For example, Spain submitted 60 applications with Italy (55) and Greece (41) not far behind.

In the second Open Call, applicants submitted applications in relation to 16 challenges. All challenges were represented in submissions, but a few stood out as the most popular. Challenges 29 (Energy Bill LLM Microservice), 32 (Maintenance Scheduling Optimiser) and 22 (Port Power Digital Twin) received the most applications, showing great interest in creative problem solving and teamwork for energy optimisation among applicants.

Overall, it is evident that COSMIC’s Open Call process is a strong catalyst to develop new ways of thinking about AI, energy and big data. Now that submissions are closed, an evaluation is underway. Technical partners, challenges owners and experts from FundingBox are ready to review all submissions to identify the next group of innovators to take their journey with COSMIC. Selected applicants will receive funding and mentoring and will test their solutions across COSMIC’s 15 large-scale pilot sites, gaining real-world validation within an AI-driven ecosystem.

Updates on the second Open Call will follow in the coming months. In the meantime, stay tuned for updates on our COSMIC Channels, watch our latest video and stay up to date about future collaborations.
